Came in to celebrate purchase of a new home and citizenship naturalization. The server greeted us warmly. However, as she was serving drinks, the soda fell and splash all over on my friends. A quarter of the soda was gone, on my friend's shirt and pants. She apologized, but did not offer to replace our drink or do anything to amend it.
Then, when we were eating the poussin (chicken), it was obviously undercooked with some blood inside, the server said she would take it back to (check). She came back asking if we want a new dish or recook it. Because we don't want to act like we're taking advantage of the situation, we said recooking is fine. But when she returned with the cooked dish, she not only did not admit that the chicken was undercooked nor apologize, but said that she checked and was sure that it was cooked. She's making it sounded like we're accusing them. We regretted that we did not take any photos. It's ok if the food is messed up, it happens, but having been a waiter myself, I really could not stand such an UNAPOLOGETIC attitude. Someone else left review about the same kind of unapologetic attitude as well. Dude, this is a high class French fine dining. We shouldn't be treated as such.
When we get the bill, NOTHING was taken off as a token of apology, nothing. They even charged us for $2 for the bread refill. It sounded complimentary when she asked it, so we said yes. If something costs extra, make sure you ask if that's ok. Or don't even charge for that $2 thing. It just makes you look bad.
If you want to charge us $300 for the meal, and you can't even take off a soda drink that's worth $5, then I wish you guys luck for staying open for a long time.
Please re-train your server to make sure the appropriate courtesy is offered when you guys made MISTAKES. ADMIT it and DO something about it for Chris sake.
Even though the food was good, but we will never come back here again nor recommend it to our friends. There are too many amazing restaurants in Portland to sacrifice the dining experience for us.
After having seen the owner appear on Chopped (unfairly eliminated in the final round!) my wife and daughter made reservations here before we shipped our daughter back to school after the Christmas break. We had a really wonderful experience. We shared the escargot and the chicken liver mousse. Both were outstanding - rich and flavorful. The mousse was creamy and decadent and the escargot was buttery and flavorful. And we received additional (free) bread when we ran out. My wife had the sole au saffron and said it was delightful. My daughter had the duck l'orange and loved it. I had the steak frites (bavette) and thought it was fantastic. Perfectly cooked and seasoned - and the bearnaise sauce added wonderful depth and richness. For dessert my daughter grudgingly shared her Chocolate Malt Mille-Feuille -- and it was quite the treat. The filling was rich and the pastry was crisp and sweet. My wife had the Tarte Au Citron and it was delicious. The service was attentive without being overbearing and everyone was very nice and friendly. The atmosphere is comfortable. We will definitely be back.
Loved the food and wine choices! We had delicious chicken liver mousse, butter salad, sole with hazelnuts and mussels mariniere. All beautifully prepared. Our server was excellent. The only downside was the noise level! My spouse and I had to lean across the table in order to hear each other.
I had high expectations going in because the reviews and recommendations were so positive! Our food was severely delayed despite there being very few folks in the dining room. Once the food arrived it was alright but not what I would expect for the price.
Had a very odd experience here that made me feel uncomfortable as a Black women visiting a predominantly white city. Found a hair in my food and requested a new dish. The servers seemed flippant about the experience and did not take anything off of our bill. I am not confrontational enough to ask for a complimentary dish, but felt as if they should have offered to at least comp a cocktail under the circumstances. I felt as though they were unapologetic about the experience. For. $45 dish - I expected better treatment. Vibes were off, would not return.
The food and cocktails themself were 4/5. Service, 0.
Truly fantastic, exceptional meal and service at a relatively reasonable price. Decadent French fare, couldn't eat there every night but perfect for a special splurge.
Exceptional service, exceptional food, never a bad experience here! Try something you’ve never had, trust your servers to give you the best recommendations and splurge on the best French food in Portland!
Great look. Cool music, good service. The escargot was absolutely delicious. Came with large baguette to get all of the butter sauce. It truly was delicious. I ordered the chicken with a dill pickle sauce and I have to say it did not …
